CHARLIE Taylor is one of rugby 7’s fastest rising stars — both on and off the field.

The former rugby league player is making a name for himself just as much for his on field skills as his off field modelling and is about to study acting at NIDA.

Thanks to his large social media following of almost 180 000, the 22-year-old northern beaches boy has built an impressive side career.

In a big coup, he’s been announced as a Longines Friend for the upcoming Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in April.

“This is the most prestigious thing I’ve done,” said the outside back, who joins Simon Baker and Kate Winslet representing the high end watch brand.

Despite considering himself a full-time rugby player, Taylor believes it’s important to have something to fall back on. Along with modelling, he’s about to start at prestigious acting school NIDA.

“I’m really committed to rugby but you’ve always got to have something on the side. Because just one little slip and one little injury could be the end of it,” he said, crediting former NFL athlete turned biggest movie star in the world, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as his inspiration.

In the meantime, Taylor is relishing his time in the sport.

“Playing for your country is the biggest honour, which I never thought I would do. Before playing rugby 7s I’d only travelled to one country in my life, New Zealand. Now I think I’ve travelled to about 30 odd countries and it’s opened up so many opportunities, like working with Longines.”

“Who doesn’t want to travel the world and get fit and get paid for it?”

Taylor will represent his country at next week’s Sydney 7’s tournament at Moore Park.
