HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHP) — A funeral and memorial service was held Saturday morning for Karl Singleton, the former Chief Equity and Compliance Officer for Harrisburg.
Karl was a prominent and involved member of the community.

The city released the following statement on his initial passing on March 14:
His lifelong dedication to promoting equity, fostering inclusivity, and empowering underrepresented communities has left an indelible mark on Harrisburg. Beyond his official capacities, Karl's leadership extended to multiple organizations, reflecting his passion for community advancement.
He was born on January 22, 1973 in Newark, NJ, and later attended Harrisburg High School and Harrisburg Community College.
His obituary highlighted his dedication to leadership in the city and throughout Central PA.
Karl considered it a distinct honor to be entrusted with cultivating professional environments among community partners and diverse stakeholders for over two decades. Remaining a tireless, proactive voice for intentional inclusivity focused on underrepresented populations, he exemplified stellar integrity in challenging environments. Karl was a sought-after professional throughout the Commonwealth, addressing equity in education, housing, workforce development, and economic development, which was his core focus. During his first appointment to Harrisburg City Government as Senior Advisor to the Mayor from 2014-2018, he championed the 21st Century Policing Recommendations locally driven by President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Initiative. Amongst other high points, Karl convened a Regional Disproportionate Minority Contact Committee that assembled Chiefs of Police (from nine municipalities), the District Attorney, and Educators to address the need for healthy and safe communities. His focus on advancing the needs of communities was well-known through his service on various Boards of Directors, including The Boys and Girls Club, The PROGRAM for Female Offenders, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Harrisburg (President), Founding Member of Impact Harrisburg and Founding Member of the Pennsylvania Diversity Coalition.
