LAFAYETTE, La. (KPLC) - A Lake Charles man accused of a multi-parish crime spree was indicted on eight rape charges in Lafayette Parish.

Shannon Everett Morris Jr., 36, is accused of sexually assaulting a Lake Charles woman in her home. Early the next morning, on Jan. 31, he forced his way inside another woman’s home, demanded money from her, raped and threatened to kill her, Calcasieu Parish deputies said.

Morris stole a gun from the victim and forced her to drive him to Iowa, deputies said. He is then accused of taking a woman’s car at gunpoint and driving to Jennings with her still inside.

The crime spree continued in Crowley, where Morris stole women’s cars at gunpoint outside Burger King and Walmart, Lafayette Parish deputies said. He was later arrested in Duson.

This week a Lafayette Parish grand jury returned eight counts of first-degree rape and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, all of which allegedly happened on Jan. 31. The true bill shows Morris was previously convicted of home invasion in Calcasieu Parish.

Morris faces the following charges in Calcasieu Parish:

  • Second-degree rape
  • Theft of a firearm
  • Unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling
  • 2nd-degree kidnapping
  • Aggravated assault with a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm by a person previously convicted of felonies
  • Attempted second-degree rape
  • Sexual battery
  • False imprisonment.

He has not yet been indicted.

He also faces numerous charges in Acadia Parish.
