Lincoln General Election: What voters will see on the ballot

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Lincoln General Election is Tuesday, May 6 and early voting is underway.

You can view a sample ballot here. This is a nonpartisan election. Video recordings from candidate forums hosted by the League of Women Voters of Lincoln/Lancaster County are available to watch in the video player above.

The General Election ballot includes a proposal to ban housing discrimination based on a renter’s or buyer’s source of income.

Lincoln City Council: 3 at-large positions, 4-year term

Incumbents Bennie Shobe, Tom Beckius, and Sändra Washington are seeking reelection. While the race is officially nonpartisan, all three have been endorsed by Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird, a Democrat.

Joining them on the ballot are Jerry Shoecraft, a former council member; Stan Parker, a former mayoral candidate; and Maher Aurang Zeb, a businessman who flips houses and operates a painting company.

Lincoln Airport Authority: 1 position, 4-year term

Incumbent Vanessa Emlich is facing challenger Tom Trumble, a pilot and retired engineer. Emlich received 3,445 more votes than Trumble in the primary election.

Lincoln Public Schools Board of Education: 1 elected from each district (1, 3, 5, 7), 4-year terms

District 1 (Northeast Lincoln): John Cartier, a lawyer, is running against John Goodwin, CEO of the Malone Center, who received twice as many votes as Cartier in the primary. Incumbent Kathy Danek is not seeking reelection.

District 3 (Northwest Lincoln): Seth Duncan, a paraprofessional, is challenging incumbent Barbara Baier.

District 5 (Far Southeast Lincoln): Incumbent Mara Krivohlavek is running unopposed. Krivohlavek was appointed to fill the remainder of longtime board member Lanny Boswell’s term following his passing in April.

District 7 (Southwest Lincoln): Marilyn Johnson-Farr, a Doane University professor, and Cheryl Meyer-Thompson, a former FCS teacher, are competing for the seat. Incumbent Don Mayhew is not seeking reelection.
