A 'masterpiece' horror movie is said to be a 'remarkable piece of cinema' and dubbed The Walking Dead meets Snowpiercer.

Train To Busan has just been named among the latest additions to Netflix's vast catalogue for US subscribers. However horror fans based in the UK don't need to miss out as it is available here via a subscription for Amazon Prime. Meaning there is still a fantastic opportunity to discover why it holds such high esteem.

Debuting in 2016, this South Korean zombie thriller quickly rose to international stardom. The lead role is played by Squid Game's Gong Yoo, portraying Seok-woo, who faces a hellish ordeal on a train journey to Busan with his daughter, aiming to visit his wife on the child's birthday.

This trip turns into a fight for survival amidst a zombie epidemic spreading across South Korea. Yeon Sang-ho took charge of directing the film and has since gone on to write and direct a series titled Revelations for Netflix.

Plans for an American remake were set for 2023, named The Last Train To New York, but it was scrapped by Warner Bros before its release. Mirroring the success of the original, which enjoys a stellar 95% Rotten Tomatoes score, would be a challenge, reports the Mirror US.

Fans haven't been shy about expressing their opinions online, with many voicing that it surpasses similar offerings. A viewer enthusiastically shared: "The Walking Dead meets Snowpiercer but set in Korea and it delivers too."

They carried on: "It's on par if not better than most of it's Hollywood zombie apocalypse counterparts. It's a great action flick, it's paced well so it has your attention drawn throughout and the end is somewhat emotional."

Meanwhile, another fan insisted: "This is now considered as one of the best horror and thriller movies ever made. Hell this is one of the best movies ever made period. I have never watched a film that can bring so many emotions make you sob like hard rain. If you haven't seen this masterpiece then you are really missing out on one of the best film of all time, highly recommended!".

Another individual weighed in, suggesting the movie ranks with the iconic undead films, noting: "When done well a Zombie film can be a truly remarkable piece of cinema."

Pointing to genre benchmarks, they added: "Whether you love the brilliant dark political satire of George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead, the pulse racing terror of Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later, or the slapstick humour of Edgar Wright's Shaun of the Dead. The Zombie flick has a special place in the hearts of horror fans."

Meanwhile, another commentator described its broad appeal: "Kind of has everything you want in a film for the most part, good acting, some emotional and comedic beats, some real tension and horror and to top it off a typically horrible, morally bankrupt character who you're rooting for his demise the whole film."

Echoing the sentiments, another enthusiast shared: "The best zombie film to date. This film is a thrill ride through the whole film. With characters you actually care for and a setting that makes it so claustrophobic and tense you'll be glued to your seat, not able to look away!"
