Coleen Nolan was at the helm of Loose Women when she abruptly brought the show to a pause to announce "breaking news" regarding her co-star Dame Kelly Holmes, who was on-air.

During the show on Thursday, May 8, Coleen and Kelly were joined by Nadia Sawalha and Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver when the announcement landed.

Unbeknown to Kelly a British middle-distance athlete, she had been voted as one of the most empowering people globally in the last 25 years.

Wanting to share the good news live on the show, Coleen said: "But some breaking news now and huge congratulations to you Kelly."

Looking seriously stunned and baffled, Kelly quizzed: "What is this?" As Coleen continued: "You have been named as one of the most empowering women in the last 25 years," as a round-of-applause filled the studio.

"I'm really really chuffed with that," gasped Kelly. The Olympic gold medalist wasn't the only Loose Women star to appear on the respectable list, with Katie Piper being named too. The list was released by Galaxy in partnership with charity Young Women’s Trust.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the programme things took an emotional turn as Britain's Got Talent winner Sydnie Christmas took to the programme to share her version of Vera Lynn's iconic war time song, We'll Meet Again.

Before the singer took to the stage, the panel were keen to establish Sydnie's thoughts and feelings on this year's talent.

Corrie star Sue said: "Before we let you go, I have to ask, who's going to win it this year?" Sydnie told her: "Normally, I always back the singers because I know how frightening it is up there but there is a little boy who plays a guitar and he plays it like his life depends on it."

Coleen confirmed: "That little boy is Olly Pearson," as a picture of him flashed up on screens. The former winner added: "I understand him because that's how I feel when I sing, so he just breaks my heart."

Loose Women will return to ITV1, at 12:30pm on Friday May 9.
