Middle Georgia teacher among finalists for Georgia’s Pre-K Teacher of the Year
Erica Mimbs, an educator from Bleckley County Primary School, is recognized for excellence in early childhood education by DECAL.

COCHRAN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Erica Mimbs, an educator from Bleckley County Primary School in Cochran, has been selected as a finalist for Georgia’s Pre-K Teacher of the Year award.
As a finalist, Mimbs joins an elite group of educators who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to the development and growth of young children. Her efforts in creating a nurturing and enriching environment for her students have been recognized by the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL).

Next steps in the selection process
As part of the selection process, Mimbs and the other finalists will undergo a comprehensive evaluation, including classroom observations, small group video submissions, and personal interviews. These assessments will help DECAL identify the two winners: one from a local public school system and one from a private child care center. The winners will be announced in September 2025.
Celebrating excellence in early childhood education
Each finalist, including Mimbs, has received a $500 cash prize from the Georgia Foundation for Early Care + Learning.
The winners of the 2025-2026 Pre-K Teacher of the Year award will serve as ambassadors for the state’s Pre-K program. They will represent the program at public speaking engagements and model effective classroom practices.
