The wait for Love Island's 12th season is almost over, and to build excitement, a special anniversary episode is set to air ahead of the new series. ITV2 has announced that Love Island: A Decade of Love, a one-off special, will premiere this June, although the exact return date for the new season has yet to be confirmed by the show's producers.

Fans are speculating that the new series will kick off on either Monday, June 2nd or June 9th, based on previous seasons' premieres, which typically fell on the first Monday in June. If this prediction holds true, the anniversary special will air in just a few weeks.

According to ITV's description, the special episode will "revisit unforgettable moments from the past decade – from explosive recouplings and shock bombshells to the love stories that captured the nation."

It will also include "exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes insights, and explore Love Island's impact on TV, culture, and those who've stepped foot in the villa."

Several familiar faces will make an appearance in the episode to celebrate this milestone. Here's a rundown of some of the returning couples, reports OK!

Season seven winners Millie Court and Liam Reardon are among the returning stars, and they have faced their share of ups and downs since leaving the show. The love story between the duo who found romance on the ITV series in summer 2021 has certainly been a rollercoaster.

After scooping the hefty £50,000 prize, they moved in together in November that same year, eager to begin what they described on social media as "a new chapter."

Yet to the astonishment of many a fan, in July 2022 the reality TV pair announced they had split up. Speed along to summer 2023, and lo and behold, the couple rekindled their relationship.

Amidst their reunion, Millie opened up revealing that the break had occurred amicably, squashing rumours it was ignited by Liam's supposed infidelity.

Presently, their bond appears stronger than ever, with the two even launching their own relationship-focused broadcast called The Liam and Millie Podcast.

He shared a heartfelt post, captioned: "Introducing the next Mrs Fagan. Beautiful, caring, loving and smart are just some of the words that describe you. I love loving you, I love you and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you."

New viewers may not know OG couple Cara De La Hoyde-Massey and Nathan Massey, but they were fan favourites in season two.

Set to feature in the upcoming ITV special, the duo not only won that series but have since tied the knot and are parents to two children, Freddie and Delilah.

However, their journey together has encountered its fair share of turbulence, particularly during Cara's first pregnancy when the couple chose to part ways temporarily.

Candidly discussing the challenging period on the MadebyMammas Podcast, Cara shared: "As soon as I found out I was pregnant we split up. Could not stand each other, hated each other, we were just together for work."

She goes on to reveal her discretion about their difficulties in public, adding: "In the press I would never slate him. I would never let on that we didn't like each other. Whatever you put out there is there forever."

Despite these upheavals, the pair managed to work through their differences and remain happily married to this day.

Another Love Island success story, season eight finalists Indiyah Polack and Dami Hope are also joining the line-up for the special episode.

A memorable couple, they originally formed a bond during summer 2022's series of the show and went through testing times, notably when both chose new partners during Casa Amor.

Nevertheless, they overcame the hurdle, and after leaving the villa together, their relationship stands strong years later.
