A total of 971 Craven County Schools seniors, including early college students, reached the milestone of graduation this year.
Craven Early College students and Early College East students celebrated their graduation Wednesday night. Craven Early College students walked the stage at the Grover C. Fields Performing Arts Center while Early College East students walked the stage at the Havelock Tourist and Event Center.
The graduates also participated in Craven Community College’s commencement on Thursday.
Students at Craven Virtual Academy will celebrate their graduation Thursday at 6 p.m. at Grover C. Fields Performing Arts Center, 2000 Dr. M.L.K. Jr. Blvd in New Bern.
Graduates at Havelock High School, New Bern High School and West Craven High School will walk the stage Friday at 8:30 a.m. Each ceremony will be held in the respective school’s football stadium, weather permitting.
Craven County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Kelly Cox has offered several tips to help make Friday commencement ceremonies go smoothly.
Cox advises people planning to attend a graduation ceremony to arrive early and to pack some essential items, like snacks, water and sunscreen, to prepare for the events. Cox also said comfortable shoes would be a good idea because of the potential for a lot of walking. Motorists should also be cautious with crowds and to watch out for people walking Friday morning.
He also said that people should look for a Craven County Schools staff member, school resource officer or Craven County deputy if they need help during the events.
