Kate Middleton's nautical-inspired ensemble to christen a Royal Navy ship called back to another maritime outfit worn by her mother-in-law, Princess Diana.
On May 22, the Princess of Wales joined Prince William in Scotland to visit the HMS Glasgow, sporting a Suzannah London coat dress new to her royal closet. The navy piece featured ivory trim, highlighting its clean silhouette, and giving naval vibes, spot on for the outing. She paired the dress with a coordinating Philip Treacy hat, which she last sported at Trooping the Colour in 2022.
The look was reminiscent of a similar blue and white outfit by Catherine Walker worn by Princess Diana in May 1993. She attended an outing with the future King Charles, whom she married in 1981 before their divorce was finalized in 1996, going to a Battle of the Atlantic service in Liverpool.

Princess Kate, 43, completed her homage to her late mother-in-law, who died in a 1997 Paris car crash, with jewelry from Princess Diana's collection. In addition to their shared engagement ring, the current Princess of Wales donned cabochon sapphire drop earrings that previously belonged to Diana.
Kate has worn the set before, first sporting the earrings with the same hat at Trooping the Colour in 2022. The accessory's debut put years of rumors to rest, as a smaller pair of sapphire and diamond earrings worn by Kate were believed to have been fashioned from the cabochon sapphire drop earrings.
At the time, Lauren Kiehna of The Court Jeweller blog told PEOPLE, "The sapphires in Diana's earrings are cabochons, and the sapphires in Kate's smaller earrings are faceted. The claim has now been fully debunked as Kate has now worn the double cluster earrings."
