Bemidji Affected By Planned Parenthood Restructuring; MN Woman Arrested In Toddler Death; State Ranks Low In Summer Job Availability

>>Layoffs Comong To Planned Parenthood

(St. Paul)Planned Parenthood North Central States is laying off 66 workers, and reassigning an additional 37, as it closes and consolidates eight health centers.

The restructuring affects health centers in Apple Valley, Bemidji, Richfield and Alexandria. The centers typically  provide services such as emergency contraception to walk-in patients and prescription services; none provide abortions.

The number of Minnesota employees affected by the layoffs wasn’t immediately available. In coming years, the nonprofit will reduce brick-and-mortar sites to create regional centers, while doubling down on virtual and online care. (Star Tribune)

>>Ceremony Will Be Held At Fort Snelling To Honor Those Who Served

(Minneapolis, MN)    Governor Tim Walz  participated in a ceremony yesterday morning in observance of fallen servicemen and women at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.   The event in Minneapolis featured a moment of silence and then the playing of Taps.  Each year, volunteers place close to 200 thousand miniature flags on the graves at the cemetery before Memorial Day. >>Amazon Pauses Plans For Data Center Near Becker

(Becker, MN)    Amazon is pausing plans to open a data center in Becker.  The location was near Xcel Energy Center’s Sherco site, with Xcel Energy saying the pause comes from independent factors surrounding electricity needs.  In a statement, an Amazon spokesperson said the company is evaluating new locations based on customer demand, and will continue to evaluate the location.  (24/7 News Source)

>>MN Woman Arrested In Fargo For Murder

(Undated)    A 32-year-old Minnesota woman is charged with probable cause second-degree murder following her arrest in North Dakota.  Valarie Zamora’s 20-month-old son died Thursday at Sanford Hospital in Fargo.  An autopsy determined the cause of death was homicide.  Zamora was held for extradition to Moorhead.(24/7 News Source)

(St. Paul, MN)    The St. Paul area is near the middle of the best places to visit this summer in the US.  Wallethub published a report of the one hundred largest metro areas based off of 41 key indicators, including cost of the cheapest flight, to the number of attractions.  The Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington metro area came in 39th, scoring in the top 30 for activities.  The Orlando metro area came in first.(24/7 News Source)

(St. Paul, MN)    Minnesota cities are ranking low in a new summer job report.  WalletHub published a report on the best places for summer jobs, with over 180 markets in the U.S. across 21 key indicators of employment outlook, affordability and downtime-friendliness looked at.  Minneapolis ranked highest at 76th, with St. Paul coming in at number 87.  (24/7 News Source)
