Warning for millions banking with Lloyds, NatWest, Halifax, Santander 'over next month'

102 bank branches are shutting over the next month including Lloyds, Santander, NatWest and Halifax. Some of the UK's largest banks are shutting sites, owing to a change in consumer habits and reduced footfall on high streets.

Banks and building societies have closed 6,377 branches since January 2015, at a rate of around 53 each month. This represents 64% of the branches that were open at the start of 2015.


There are currently 379 closures pencilled in for 2025: 100 from Halifax, 95 from Santander, 93 from Lloyds, 53 from NatWest, 24 from Bank of Scotland, eight from TSB and six from Barclays.

Already there have been 22 branches scheduled for closure in 2026: 14 from Lloyds, four from Halifax, and four from Bank of Scotland.
