L3Harris Technologies has been awarded a contract by the US Department of Defense (DoD) to supply more Vehicle Agnostic Modular Palletised ISR Rocket Equipment (VAMPIRE) systems designed to counter drone threats.
This order expands upon the initial deployment of VAMPIRE systems in 2023 for operations in Europe.
VAMPIRE, which is a portable muti-purpose weapon system, can fit on any tactical or non-tactical vehicles with a flat surface. It is a modular and palletised weapon system that offers ground forces a swift, economical, and effective means of deploying weaponry.
The system is claimed to improve reconnaissance and strike capabilities of drones and remotely piloted aircraft.
L3Harris targeting and sensor systems vice president and general manager Tom Kirkland said: “L3Harris’ VAMPIRE has proven to be a reliable and cost-effective response to the growing counter-UAS threat on the global battlefield.
“We will continue to work closely with the Department of Defense and our allied partners to provide formidable counter-UAS technology domestically and abroad.”

By GlobalDataVAMPIRE incorporates L3Harris’ WESCAM MX-10D RSTA system with its weapons station, enabling operators to rapidly identify and neutralise targets.
The WESCAM MX-10D RSTA is a compact multi-sensor, multi-spectral targeting system consolidated into a single line replaceable unit. This system is specifically designed to serve a variety of purposes including reconnaissance, tactical surveillance, target designation, as well as supporting ground combat operations and force protection missions.
Additionally, VAMPIRE merges the advanced precision kill weapons system rocket with the L3Harris proximity fuse and Widow mission management software, enhancing the lethality of the system in engaging both ground and aerial targets.
VAMPIRE’s capabilities are not limited to land, says the company which adds that it shows promise for multi-domain operations including maritime environments where it can address threats from uncrewed aerial systems, fast inshore attack crafts, and low-slow flying objects.
In May 2025, L3Harris Technologies was awarded multiple contracts anticipated to total $214m as part of Germany’s digitalisation – land based operations initiative.
In January 2025, L3Harris secured a $300m contract from the US Army to supply thousands of next-generation handheld, manpack, and small form fit radios.
